OPEN DAY 2024 | JUNIOR SCHOOL | PREP - YEAR 6
The Junior School at Ivanhoe Girls' provides every student with the opportunity to become a confident, resilient, resourceful and independent learner. We invite you to talk to our students and staff about an education that is both nurturing and innovative.
Junior School students venture to all areas of the School to access our wonderful and versatile facilities: swimming lessons occur weekly in the indoor swimming pool; the Hillsley Visual Arts and Hospitality Complex is an inspiring location for Junior School Art; and the Performing Arts Centre is used for formal and class-led Assemblies, performances and presentations, to name just a few. The Physical Education Centre, including the Gym, the sports field and tennis courts are used for classes and activities, along with St James Church for Church Services.

All Junior School classrooms and specialist rooms are open for you to explore with displays of work, photographs and activities. Our staff are available in classrooms to discuss the programs offered.
Visit the Prep rooms and enjoy our displays that showcase our great learning since the start of the year. Have a go at one of our literacy or numeracy games too!
In Year 1, we kicked off our learning with a bang! Starting with exploring digital technologies, we have been learning about software, hardware and digital systems. We have also been exploring our extended families and have created our family trees!
In Reading, we immersed ourselves in the captivating world of Aaron Blabey, reading many well-known books such as Pig the Pug and Thelma the Unicorn.
We invite you to visit our vibrant learning spaces, with exciting games to try, displays to view and books to read!
Year 2 have been learning about the past and present in Term 1. They have made comparisons between home life communication now and in the past using T Charts and Venn Diagrams. Come and see the displays and play a Maths game while visiting the Year 2 classroom.
Do you sometimes feel down in the dumps? Or are you sometimes a little angry or anxious? Visit Year 3 and you’ll realise that you are not alone!
The Year 3s have been exploring the fascinating world of emotional literacy. They’ve learned how to recognise the vast number of human emotions both in themselves and others. They’ve mapped their feelings using the Zones of Regulation and have designed tools to help regulate their emotions. Drop by to learn some emotion regulation tools!
Girls in STEM - Our Year 4 scientists have been busy learning about Forces in Term 1. They have followed the Scientific Method to answer questions about contact and non-contact forces.
Come and see the billy carts they have built and used to explore pushing, pulling, gravity and friction forces. Enjoy photos and videos of our scientists in action!
During Term 1, Year 5 students have practised viewing themselves through a positive lens. In Maths, they explored area and perimeter and created 2D Minecraft Selfies which were then transformed into 3D statues in our Minecraft ‘Walk of Honour’. As with all great statues, plaques were added to celebrate the students’ strengths and aspirations. Come visit Year 5 to see the ‘Walk of Honour’ for yourselves!
Come and ‘Discover Democracy’ in the Year 6 Centre. Learn about the ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ campaigns for a variety of questions posed by our students. For example, should all cars on Australian roads be electric-powered by 2030? View their campaign videos, read their posters, and consider their arguments. Then, participate in the democratic process by voting in the plebiscites, in order to advise the government on how to proceed with these issues.
Individual Differences teachers Alison Lobbe and Glyn Howitt invite you to visit Room 12 in Amos House and enjoy creativity and problem-solving with numbers and letters. Apply mathematical skills and reasoning to solve some challenging problems or work out the value of your name using the 'not-so-secret' code. You will be mind-boggled as you manipulate letters to create words within a time limit. Can you beat your personal best?
