What is Zonta?
Zonta is an international organisation with over 26,000 volunteer members in 64 countries across the globe who are committed to building a better world for women and girls through service and advocacy at a local, regional, and international level.
In 2024, Zonta International celebrated its 105th anniversary, and in 2026, Zonta Club of Melbourne on Yarra will celebrate its 60th anniversary. One of our goals for 2024-2026 is for all Clubs worldwide to work towards being a credible and visible voice in the areas of violence against women, climate justice, education equality and the promotion of women in leadership and decision-making.
What is a Zonta ZEDx?
Similar to a TEDx or a TED Talk - ZEDx is an interactive forum to share knowledge, experience, expertise, and information, held both in-person or online.
The ZEDx enables everyone to have an educational, enlightening, entertaining and enthralling discussion or dialogue, and is an X-citing, X-clusive, X-factor X-perience.
Why a First Nation Women's Forum?
Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School and Zonta International are uniting to build a better world for women and girls. This forum is an opportune time to hear the voices of local First Nations women, and how their lived experiences, aspirations, commitment, and fierce determination have shaped their achievements for First Nations communities across Victoria and other jurisdictions.
We have the opportunity to be inspired by what has driven their commitment, and the challenges they have had to overcome to be successful. It is also an opportunity to show solidarity and support for First Nations women in our community, and find out how we can best support their vision.
What projects do Zonta Club of Melbourne on Yarra support?
Since 1966, we have raised funds to deliver a range of projects to empower women and girls worldwide in the workplace, marketplace, and community.
Our current initiatives include:
- Making breast care cushions for women recovering from breast cancer surgery in hospitals across Victoria
- Providing educational awards for women and girls who demonstrate leadership qualities in local community service, business, STEM, youth leadership, music, and climate action
- Assembling and distributing birthing kits for women in developing countries
- Creating 150 ‘pamper packs’ of toiletries every Christmas for women receiving support from family violence support services
- Awarding grants to local not-for-profit agencies serving the interests of women and girls.
We also support Zonta International projects in conjunction with the United Nations to:
