From the Principal
We are proud to congratulate the 110 students from the Class of 2019 on their excellent VCE results. In particular we are delighted to report that:
- Three students achieved an ATAR score higher than 99 (3% of the cohort)
- 11 students achieved an ATAR score higher than 98 (10% of the cohort)
- 26 students achieved an ATAR score higher than 95 (24% of the cohort)
- 46 students achieved an ATAR score higher than 90 (42% of the cohort).
In choosing a school, many parents look to the VCE results of previous years as a key determinant in their decision-making process. We know it is a clear expectation of parents that our teachers will personalise learning experiences for students that build towards their child reaching their academic potential in Year 12. This academic achievement typically then enables students to move forward with their tertiary course of choice, or in a few cases, to commence an early vocational career path about which they are passionate. The Class of 2019 have, as a result of their hard work, achieved outstanding results and now will have more choice about their future pathways.
While the statistics above are indeed impressive, we are a non-selective school and, as such, success looks different for different students. This year, as in previous years, some students will have achieved lower ATARs than some of their peers. These results still represent wonderful personal achievements that were founded on the same personal dedication and commitment of the students who achieved higher ATARs. As such, we commend all of our students in the Class of 2019.
Throughout 2019, the Year 12 students did so much more than study for their assessments and end of year examinations. I have been particularly proud of their team work to make their motto, ‘One Team, Many Dreams’, come to life throughout the year. I have also been impressed to see the large range and diversity of co-curricular activities that our graduating class have managed to fit in around their academic studies and service to their School. The time we spend at Ivanhoe Girls’ in facilitating learning experiences in which students can develop teamwork, leadership and public speaking skills alongside independence, creativity and self-confidence, are quite deliberate. We know these personal skills, in addition to their academic knowledge and skills, will in combination contribute to a successful future for our graduates.
Throughout the years of schooling at Ivanhoe Girls’, it is our aim to ensure our students achieve their personal academic potential as well as to develop the necessary personal qualities and attributes that will enable all students to become happy and successful adults in whatever area in which they are passionate. I am delighted with the academic results of the Class of 2019 and to have shared in their achievements and contributions to school life. On behalf of the entire School community I congratulate these students, wish them every success for the future and encourage them to remain in touch with us so we can follow them in the next stage of their journeys as adults.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank every staff member for the tremendous dedication they have shown in assisting each student to achieve their very best.
