Mr John Hamilton Shilliday
 2.3.1933 – 22.6.2022

It is with much sadness that we convey the news of the passing of Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School’s ninth Principal, Mr John Hamilton Shilliday, Principal (1977 – 1990), Cooerwull Member, School Company Member and past parent.

Mr Shilliday was an inspirational leader with a delightful sense of humour and a much loved and respected member of the School community. John was renowned for knowing every student’s name under his care and was a wonderful man. John’s passing is a great loss to our school community. John was an active member of the Ivanhoe Girls’ community up until 2018 when he retired from the Cooerwull Committee.

John’s commitment to the School over 35 years has been nothing short of extraordinary. John commenced as the School Principal in 1977 until his retirement in 1990. The School’s Physical Education Centre is named in his honour.

In 2018, John was awarded a 35 Year Cooerwull Service Award for his services to the School as Principal and a member of the Cooerwull Committee. John was often seen at school events, the annual Cooerwull Service Awards and Cooerwull Capers.

Our thoughts and prayers are with John’s wife, Judy Watt, John’s children Jenny, Ian and Fiona (Class of 1981), their families and friends at this time.

The funeral for the late Mr John Hamilton Shilliday will take place at St Mark’s Camberwell, 1 Canterbury Road, Camberwell on Thursday 30 June at 2.00pm.
