Congratulations to the Ivanhoe Girls’ Class of 2020 on their tertiary offers. Our talented students have been offered a wide range of courses within Victoria, interstate and internationally.
As in previous years, our Year 12 students performed strongly and achieved excellent results that reinforced Ivanhoe Girls’ as the top academic school for VCE results in the north of Melbourne, and in the top twenty VCE schools across Victoria. Our students’ outstanding achievements resulted in over two thirds of them receiving their first tertiary preference, 85% receiving a place in their first or second preference course, and 100% receiving a place in a course of their first three choices.
Cassie HorneIt is indeed so wonderful to see that the hard work of the students and their teachers, in a particularly challenging year, has been rewarded with the graduates of the Class of 2020 all now heading off to pursue their areas of passion.
Our students have chosen to study courses across a wide range of different fields including Medicine, Design, Music, Engineering, Business/Marketing, Law/Criminology, Science and Nursing. Many of the students in the Class of 2020 had their hard work and talent recognised with Awards and Grants, from various institutions.
While many of the Awards and Grants were to acknowledge and support students entering medical, biomedical or pharmacy courses, I was also delighted to see Zoya McLean’s musical talents recognised with an awarding to her of a Bachelor of Music Entrance Grant to study at The University of Melbourne, and Cassie Horne accepting a Vice Chancellor's Excellence Scholarship to study a Bachelor of Design at Swinburne University. Meanwhile, Abbey Rumble has accepted a Tennis Scholarship to Martin Methodist College in Tennessee, USA, and will study Nursing there.
All of the Award and Grant recipients are to be congratulated.
As I reflect on 2020 and the challenges that were overcome by our students, I know they commence their tertiary studies having developed resilience and determination to succeed in whatever they choose to pursue. I look forward to following their journeys in the coming years and to inviting them back to the School to reflect on how 2020 at Ivanhoe Girls’ set them up for success despite the challenges of a world-wide pandemic.
