‘A commitment to “develop young women of character” means Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School is not only historic but holistic, too.’
In January 2022, I received an email from St James House in England inviting Ivanhoe Girls’ to represent Australia in an important upcoming publication. St James House is the official media and publishing house for the British Royal Family and has been engaged by the Royal Jubilee Pageant Committee to create a Royal Album to celebrate the 70 years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. The Album includes chapters on:
The Royal Jubilee Pageant Committee asked St James House researchers to identify 50 schools across the Commonwealth that had an outstanding service and leadership program for their students. The researchers then gave that list of 50 schools to the Royal Jubilee Pageant Committee that reduced the list to 15 schools across the Commonwealth. Ivanhoe Girls’ was chosen as one of the 15 Commonwealth schools and one of two Australian schools to be featured in the Education chapter of the Royal Jubilee Album.
After discussions with staff at St James House about what the Ivanhoe Girls’ section should contain, it was agreed that, as “Our Girls Speak for Themselves”, it should focus on our student voice. Hence, our School Captain (Amy Hu) and School Vice Captain (Mia Salamon) were interviewed by a writer from England about how the broader school programs, including service, leadership and co-curricular opportunities, have prepared them to be successful now in the final year of schooling and also to prepare them for a future as independent young adults.
The Album is being co-edited by royal correspondents Robert Jobson’s (Sky News) and Katie Nicholl (BBC and Vanity Fair) where the Album Launch took place on the final day of the 4-day Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in London on Sunday 5 June 2022. Copies of the Album will be provided to the School later this year and placed in the Library for everyone to enjoy.
