Ivanhoe Girls’ Aquatics offers an extensive range of aquatic programs to cater for the needs of children from five years of age through to adults and from beginners to the advanced level. The aquatic programs are available to both girls and boys, not simply restricted to students of Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School.
The Swim School operates Monday to Friday after school, and Saturday mornings during the Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School terms. The classes are taken by experienced staff who are Austswim qualified. The Swim School provides a program which will enhance the quality of swimming ability combined with a strong focus on technique and the development of water safety practices. The program has five levels of 30 minute lessons: Blue, Green, Bronze, Silver, Gold. These levels build on water confidence and basic water skills, through to the development of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
The swim school’s 45 minute Elementary session further develops fitness and prepares swimmers for higher levels of squad swimming.
The swim school also provides a summer holiday swimming intensive to current and external students attending a learn to swim program, with 45 minute sessions offered over a two week period.
The Swim School program allows for progression throughout the term and guidelines are set as to the skills required to achieve the next level. If the teacher feels that your child is ready to progress to the next level, they will arrange an assessment with the Swimming Manager during lesson time. Certificates are awarded to swimmers as they achieve each of the swim school’s 30 minute levels.
Parents can still request an assessment or progress report at any time.
Private lessons of 30 minutes with 1:1 swimmer/teacher ratio are available by arrangement with the Swimming Manager.
Class numbers remain small with only four swimmers in Blue classes, five swimmers in Green, Bronze and Silver classes, and six swimmers in Gold classes.
Adult swimming lessons are available by arrangement with the swimming manager. Classes can be tailored to suit all swimming abilities, from beginner adults who have a fear of the water through to stroke correction.
Nicola Snell runs sessions on Tuesday evenings at 7.00pm, the Aqua Aerobics class runs for 45 minutes. Attendance is casual with no booking necessary, and payment for each session is made on the night.
